Principal's Message

Dear Students, Staff and Parents,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year at Boulder Universal! Our talented and passionate staff is working hard to ensure all of our students have a strong and successful school year. The 25-26 school year will be our 16th year as an online school. This past summer, according to the US News and World Report, Boulder Universal is the #1 ranked online school in the State of Colorado (out of 38) and the 70th ranked high school in the State of Colorado (out of 522). We are also recipients of the John Irwin School of Excellence Award five of the last six years. This award is given to the top 8% of schools in the State of Colorado. BU is one of only two online schools in the state to receive this prestigious award.

One new and exciting aspect of our blended learning model is Boulder Universal is moving to a new location within the Arapahoe Campus. We will be in the same building, but we are moving to a location that is approximately 3 times larger than our previous space. Our new school area has all the modern needs and amenities needed for our students. Our new BU only entrance is now on the east side of the building. With this move, we will now be referring to our ‘lab’ as the ‘The Hive’.

This year, our elementary students will continue to have opportunities to engage with their teacher and peers with biweekly synchronous learning, traditional special offerings, and Spanish for all levels of students. In addition to our full elementary school, BU also provides reading support and math acceleration programs for students who attend brick and mortar schools. Please contact your home attendance school principal to learn more about these programs or visit the BU Website.

Boulder Universal middle school students will have access to our in-person lab, synchronous learning opportunities, and expanding elective course offerings. Our high school students have the opportunity to enroll into Front Range Community College courses that are taught by their BU teachers! During the 25-26 school year BU will offer over 45 college credits taught by our BU staff. I believe we are the only online school in the State of Colorado that provides this level of college participation with our high school teaching staff.

Please know, any student in the State of Colorado is eligible to request enrollment through the Boulder Valley School District enrollment office. Please visit BU’s enrollment website to begin exploring enrollment opportunities.

Regardless of which grade your student is currently in, we continue our long standing commitment of providing a physically and emotionally safe environment while meeting the academic needs and challenges of all of our students. We pride ourselves in providing the same rigorous course expectations as all other BVSD classrooms with a personal touch to meet the needs of each student in the classroom.

The BU Learning Lab (AKA The Hive) will be open Tuesdays/Thursdays from 8:45am- 3:30pm and Wednesdays from 10:15am- 3:30pm for our BU secondary students. Fridays are designated as test proctoring days. Our elementary students will also have classroom based activities and enrichment opportunities available (virtual and in-person). Secondary students will continue to have the option to attend quarterly field trips in the Boulder Valley area.

We look forward to a great school year, and thank you for trusting us with your students.

Best Regards,

Eric Moroye
