2023-2024 School Year Updates
Below is important information regarding end of year grades and changes that we believe will continue to enhance BU learning opportunities for secondary students for the 2023-2024 school year.
August Dates - Mark your calendars!
More details to follow in an early August email. Lifetouch Picture Day will be on Wednesday, August 16.
- Tuesday, August 15 at 12-3pm: In Person Open House for all BU Elementary students (grades KG-5) and families
- Wednesday, August 16: In Person Open House for all new BU students (grades 6-12) and families
- Thursday, August 17: In Person Open House for all returning veteran BU students (grades 6-12) and families
Middle School Families - For the 2023-2024 academic school year all middle school students will be required to attend virtual learning sessions with their middle school teachers. The session will be every Monday from 10am to 11:30am. Attendance will be taken and recorded in Infinite Campus as part of a student’s educational records. Students will receive prep and practice points for their participation in the learning session in accordance with BVSD grading policy. Attendance records and work completion will be used as the means to verify State of Colorado attendance requirements. We understand this is a change in practice and might take time for students to adjust. However, students who have taken advantage of our virtual and in-person learning opportunities clearly have better connections with BU and their teachers, and have far better academic performance levels. If you wish to discuss this with BU administration, please contact either kris.kim@bvsd.org or eric.moroye@bvsd.org.
Special Education Families - Starting for the 2023-2024 school year, students on Individual Education Plan’s (IEP’s), will have required and synchronous virtual academic support classes (ASC). The days and amount of time each student will spend in their ASC will vary depending on each student’s needs. For all students, this class will be on their course schedule, attendance will be taken, and it will become part of their permanent educational records. In addition for high school students, this class will be a credit bearing class and impact a student’s GPA.
Proctored Tests - No change in our proctored assessments for the 2023-2024 school year. If you are a 6th-12th grader, plan on having proctored tests throughout the school year. Teachers will have the schedule of proctored tests in August. As always, a student may be asked to take an assessment in person at the request of their teacher.
Required Assessments - The Colorado Department of Education requires all secondary students to take the Common Lit reading assessment. Beginning, Middle and End of year assessments are required of all students enrolled in a public school. We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child completes these assessments.
